Mission: Whispers in the Clouds

Timeline: Day 3 - 1400

  • Location: New Bajor

After the teams started taking back the Cassiopeia they eventually made it to the bridge. They start to get engineering teams working on the engines on the Cass. Suddenly the systems on the Unification start to go down in quick succession. Without warning, the systems come back online. After around an hour the Cass's engines are repaired. The Unification then begins to move, with a course set for New Bajor. Commander Lambert fears the worst and has most of the crew beamed to the USS Cassiopeia. Lt Benson, the Chief Engineer stays aboard.

They discover from looking at the virus that its actually designed to take over a ship and go to New Bajor. Once there it will detonate its warp core in the atmosphere of New Bajor, killing a large portion of its population and destroying Starfleet's main outpost here in the Gamma Quadrant.

With about 2 hours to go, the Cassiopeia catches up to the Unification. They attempt to beam the two officers back, but the virus has set up a dampening field around the bridge. Benson says he can trick the virus into lowering the field, but whoever does it would need to remain on the Unification. Lambert says he will. Benson refuses to let him. They get into a heated argument about who is willing to die to save New Bajor, when Benson pulls out a pocket phaser, and stuns Lambert. He then begins to trick the virus into lowering the dampening field, after which Lambert is beamed onto the Cassiopeia.

Benson then attempts to initiate the self destruct, which wont active due to the virus. He then goes to engineering, and fires his phaser at full strength, into the warp core, destroying the ship at the cost of his life.

The Cassiopeia makes it back to New Bajor, where the remaining crew are counselled, and the ship refit begins.

Commander Lambert is promoted to Captain, and the Cassiopeia is rechristened as the USS Unification.
