Devon could feel his head pounding. He must have feel a good 20 or 30 feet. Everything seemed to be aching. He could hear something in the background. Behind the constant ringing in his ears. Then it hit him. He could feel and hear anything, so he wasn't either unconscious or dead. He tried to move, but couldn't. He started to moan, before he could feel someone place their hand on his.

"Its...oing.....e all....rig". He felt the soothing touch of a hypospray against his neck, and the words became clearer. "Commander, its going to be alight."

He opened his eyes. Most of vision was blurred. "Where am I?" he asked the stranger. "Who are you?"

"I'm Ensign Sarah Conroy, I'm a nurse. I was passing one of the jeffries access ports and heard you land. Then I heard a patrol coming, from whoever attacked us. I hid in the jeffries tube with you, then dragged you here. Its one of the auxiliary med bays, but it had already been attacked by them. There were some bodies of some other nurses just left on the floor. My friends. I..." she started to wipe away the welling tears in her eyes. "I had to move their bodies, I couldn't just leave them lying there."

Devon forced himself to move his hand to hers. "Its ok. There's nothing you could have done. There's nothing anyone could have done. Ok?"

"But I could have sav..."

"Ok Ensign?" Devon cut her off.

"Yes sir. I'm sorry sir. Iv never been in a combat situation before."

"Don't apologise Sarah, no one has ever been in this kind of situation before. I know its hard. But you have to focus right now. What's my prognosis?" He could see that her eyes had started to fill with tears again. "That's never a good sign. Don't dance around Ensign. I can take it."

"You have a huge concussion. Your left leg is broken in 4 places. Your left arm is broken in 2 places. You have 7 broken ribs, and internal bleeding. You also have a small bleed in your brain. Very small, but I have no way to stop it." She broke down in tears. "Without any treatment, you will not survive the next 6 hours. And this whole room is trashed, there is nothing here but a few hyposprays. I am so, so sorry Commander."

"Ensign, don't make me reprimand you. Don't apologise. None of this is your fault. Its whoever attacked us. And besides, you told me I am dying, its me who should be crying." He felt tears in his eyes. He had so much planned in his future. But for some reason he felt he had to remain strong for this Ensign who he only just met. "How long have you been on board Ens... Sarah?"

"Only a few weeks sir, we haven't actually met before now." She was clearly feeling more comfortable considering what she was going though.

"Shame we only met for you to give me bad news!" He let out a laugh which hurt everything in his chest. He felt better knowing for the first time Sarah had actually smiled. "I assume you secured the room?"

"Yes sir. The door is barricaded shut with the remains of some biobed's, and we are in the office of the med bay. If someone managed to crack open the door, they cant see us."

"Good work Ensign. Guess there is nothing to do but wait. Keep me company will you? I don't want to be alone." She rushed to the side of the Commander, and put her hand in his.

"You arnt alone. I am not going anywhere Commander." The tears returned to her eyes.

"Call me Devon."
